It seems forever since we last had an overseas adventure, but here we are about to embark on another. This time there were so many complications: CO2 emissions, covid, and now the war in Ukraine. We "mitigated" our CO2 emissions (I'm not sure that is truly effective) and planned an extended trip that would do less environmental damage than many short trips. Covid, for its part, seems to be in retreat. However, we don't take it lightly because of our ages. We are fully vaccinated and boosted, and we continue to wear masks in crowded indoor spaces. And then there is the unimaginable suffering of the people in Ukraine and the unpredictability of that surreal war. We thought hard about all these issues. In the end, we decided to go. We may not be able to travel independently much longer.
This time, we will spend 11 weeks in Croatia, Slovenia, and Austria. We are in the final two weeks of preparations. Things are frantic. How to ensure the house is safe, the garden stays watered, we have our medications, etc. But it will all get done, and soon we will be off to play in beautiful Croatia.
